Microsoft readies Silverlight 5 beta
Microsoft next week will ship a beta release of Silverlight 5, the next generation of the company's proprietary multimedia plug-in platform, Microsoft officials blogged this week. Microsoft casts Silverlight as a development platform for building interactive user experiences for Web, desktop, and mobile applications either online or offline. IBM to launch Websphere 8 in June
IBM plans to release the next version of its flagship Java application server, Websphere 8, on June 17, according to documents posted to IBM's website this week. In a software announcement posted April 5, the company said the application server will be available via electronic delivery by June 17, with media packs to be issued by July 22.
