Java developers get OLAP API
Pentaho is releasing on Tuesday olap4j 1.0, which provides an open source API for Java developers to access multiple OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) servers in business intelligence applications. With the API, developers gain a single API for accessing the Mondrian OLAP server and Pentaho BI Server. Other servers supported include Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 and 2008, SAP BW, and Jedox Palo. Oracle's Essbase server may be supported at some point as well. Read More

New IBM pricing model takes a cue from cloud
IBM is taking the pay-as-you-go pricing model of cloud services and applying it to some of its software products for cloud service providers. The new pricing scheme will let application providers who offer their software as a service pay for IBM software, including WebSphere Application Server and IBM DB2, on a monthly basis as they use it. Windows kernel bugs will dominate record-setting Patch Tuesday
Microsoft will patch a large number of Windows kernel-mode device driver vulnerabilities later today, the researcher who reported them said. Today's security updates will also close a bug in Internet Explorer (IE) that hackers have started exploiting, confirmed Microsoft, who at around 1 p.m. ET, will issue 17 security bulletins that fix a record 64 vulnerabilities in Windows, IE, Office, and Visual Studio.
